Differences between Pro Schedule editions

Pro Schedule is a professional appointment calendar. It is an easy to use single or multi-user appointment scheduling system that keeps track of many different appointments. See the Pro Schedule page for additional details.

Pro Schedule Standard

The standard edition of Pro Schedule uses a local database. This version is ideal for small numbers of users in a Windows environment.

Pros

  • Appointment calendar data can be shared over a network.
  • Easy to install.
  • Inexpensive.
  • Simple intuitive graphical interface.

Cons

  • More likely to require occasional database re-indexing maintenance in an unstable environment. An unstable environment is one in which a machine crashes or is powered off improperly.
  • Poor performance with many (10 or more) people on at one time.
  • Can only be used on Windows PCs.

Pro Schedule Client-server

The client/server edition of Pro Schedule is ideal for small or large numbers of people on at one time in a Windows environment who may need to access appointment schedule data over the intranet or Internet. Pro Schedule C/S has all the features of Pro Schedule Standard except that all the raw data cannot be access directly from the software. Pro Schedule C/S is a true client/server implementation in that all database access takes place only on the server. Additionally, the data is shared over a TCP/IP connection. This means you can have the server running in Nebraska and have a client with an open Internet connection running in New Zealand sharing appointment data like it was in Nebraska.

Pros

  • Appointment calendar data can be accessed over an intranet or even the Internet.
  • Very little chance of requiring database re-indexing maintenance.
  • Good performance with many people on at one time.
  • Simple intuitive graphical interface.

Cons

  • Can only be used on Windows PCs.
  • Cannot directly connect to other database servers such as MS SQL Server or MySQL.

Pro Schedule Enterprise

Pro Schedule Enterprise is ideal for large numbers of people on at one time in a Windows environment who need to access appointment schedule data over the intranet or Internet. Pro Schedule Enterprise has all the features of Pro Schedule Client/Server except that the raw data can only be accessed and changed using the database server application. The big benefit of Pro Schedule Enterprise over Pro Schedule Client/Server is that Pro Schedule Enterprise is scalable. You can start with a small number of users running on a single database server. Over time you can add more and more users. If performance is ever a problem you simply use your database server's load balancing features to increase performance. Using the advanced features of database servers, you can accommodate unlimited numbers of people.

Pros

  • Appointment calendar data can be accessed over an intranet or even the Internet.
  • Data can be stored on your choice of several database servers, including MS SQL Server and MySQL.
  • Very little chance of requiring database re-indexing maintenance.
  • Good performance with many people on at one time.
  • Simple intuitive graphical interface.

Cons

  • Can only be used on Windows PCs.
  • Must use and maintain an external database server, such as MS SQL Server and MySQL.

Pro Schedule Web

Pro Schedule Web can run from a browser on virtually any operating system. The web edition of Pro Schedule is ideal for small or large numbers of people on at one time who need to access appointment schedule data over the intranet or Internet. Due to the limitations of HTML not all the features of the Windows versions of Timesheets can be found in the web version.  For example, the Data Manager in Pro Schedule Web is not as easy to use and appointments cannot be copied and pasted.

Pros

  • Appointment calendar data can be accessed over the intranet or even the Internet.
  • Very little chance of requiring database re-indexing maintenance.
  • Good performance with many people on at one time.
  • Client can be accessed from any web browser.

Cons

  • Less functional Html interface.
  • Must run the server software on a Windows-based PC.
  • Cannot edit or create reports.
  • Cannot directly connect to other database servers, such as MySQL or MS SQL Server.

Pro Schedule Palm Conduit

The Palm conduit is for synchronizing data between single user or multiple user installations of Pro Schedule and a PalmOS based handheld. Each Palm user must have a specific Palm UserID setup before synchronization will work correctly.

Pro Schedule PocketPC Synchronization Utility

The PocketPC synchronization utility is for synchronizing data between single user or multiple user installations of Pro Schedule and a Windows Mobile (except SmartPhone) or WindowsCE based PocketPC handheld.
